Newberry, coming off of its second NCAA Division II playoff appearance in three years, earned 36 points and two first place votes from the other seven coaches in the league. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.

Catawba earned the first position in the poll with 45 points and three first place votes, just ahead of Carson-Newman with 43 points and three first place votes.

Behind Newberry are Mars Hill (30 points), Wingate (27), Lenoir-Rhyne (22), Tusculum (14) and Brevard (7).

The Wolves kick off the season on Sept. 3, hosting regional rival Florida Tech for the first of six home games in the 2016 campaign.
