NEWBERRY — Newberry Academy faced Northside Christian at home on Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles lost a close one, 39-35, while the boys picked up their first win of the season, 53-42.

In the girls’ game, both teams struggled to score consistently and Northside took a 19-14 lead into the half. In the last period, Newberry found their offense and put together a run that brought them within 3 points, but they were unable to close the gap.

Andie Getz led the Lady Eagles with 17 points, followed by Leigha Harbert and Meagan Bedenbaugh with 6 points each. Kathryn Wilbanks added 4 points and Amber Suber scored 2 points.

The Newberry boys won an ugly game that featured 54 combined fouls. The Eagles managed a six point lead at the half and stretched the lead to 13 by the end of the third period.

The Eagles were led by Daniel Bannister who finished with a career high 20 points. Tyrese Taylor, Darius Williams and Camron Hawkins contributed 6 points each.

Other Eagles to score included Josh Sawyer with 5 points, Dylan Mackeben with 4 points, Tabb French with 3 points, Shield Sawyer with 2 points, and Andy Lin with 1 point.

On Monday night, the Lady Eagles lost to Ben Lippen, 38-15, while the boys lost 63-28. The Eagles return to action Dec. 1 when they travel to Ben Lippen for a rematch.
