PROSPERITY — Despite having only two days of practice last week the Mid Carolina Rebels defeated the Indian Land Warriors 54-30 Friday night. This win put the Rebels at an overall 3-4 record and a 2-1 conference record.

The Rebels made the first touchdown of the night on a 74 yard run by Terrell Long during the first quarter. They continued to put points on the board throughout the first quarter with Long making three touchdowns. Tray Green also ran the ball for a touchdown, making the score 28-0 before the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter consisted of Indian Land scoring its first touchdown of the night after intercepting the ball and later scoring a second touchdown with just under nine minutes before halftime. Mid Carolina responded after a punt to Indian Land was fumbled and recovered by the Rebels, putting the score at 41-14 before the half.

Going into the third quarter, Long scored another touchdown for the Rebels. Iyon Thompson also ran the ball for a touchdown, ending the third quarter with a score of 54-14.

In the fourth quarter, Indian Land was able to score two more touchdowns and complete a two point conversion. A punt to the Rebels resulted in Indian Land recovering the ball after bouncing off a players helmet. Long intercepted the ball again with 1:25 left in the game.

Mid Carolina head football coach Louie Alexander commended his team on how well they played despite having two days to prepare.

“I felt pretty good about the way we came out. It is a huge night for Terrell Long, offensive line did pretty good, defensively we gave up a few plays. But overall, they played really well,” he said.

Next week the Rebels will travel to Newberry to face the Bulldogs, and Alexander already has plans to prepare his team for Newberry.

“We will start back on Monday after breaking down film and just try to come up with a game plan. We know we are very much undersized, so we just want our kids to go out there and play as hard as they can so we can have a chance,” he said.
