DAHLONEGA, Ga. — The Newberry Wolves’ men’s golf team shot its two best rounds of the fall season Monday and sit in seventh place after 36 holes at the University of North Georgia Invitational.

Newberry shot 290 in both rounds for a two-round score of 580 (+4). Six teams are at or below par led by tournament leaders Lee (-18).

The Wolves’ top player in the first day’s action was Carlos Leandro, who is -1 (71-72=143) and tied for 17th. In an up-and-down opening day, Leandro had six birdies and an eagle in the first round and five birdies in the second round.

Evan DeGrazia and Fredrik Fossum are tied for 27th in the event at +1. DeGrazia had four birdies in the first round and three in the second round to total his 145 (73-72). Fossum had three birdies in the first round and two in the second round, also shooting a 145 (72-73).

Spencer Skiff is tied for 38th at +3 (74-73=147). He had four birdies in his both of his rounds on the opening day. Zack Sherman is tied for 57th at +7 (78-73=151). Sherman birdied a pair of par five holes in the opening round, while also carding two birdies in the second round.

The Wolves are in seventh place of 17 teams in a stacked field with some of the top teams in the Southeast Region and five teams ranked in the top 25 of the national coaches’ poll.

Newberry completed the event with 18 holes on Tuesday. Results were not available by press time.
