INMAN — The Panthers basketball team handed Newberry their first regional loss of the season on Tuesday with a final score of 76-64.

Newberry was able to contain Chapman from making any threes in the second quarter…but an eight-to-four field shot advantage in the second quarter would help send the Panthers into the locker rooms with the 44-29 advantage.

The Bulldogs won the inside the arc category, 24-17, while Chapman made seven more three-pointers than Newberry’s three. Chapman also won the free-throw conversion category, 10-to-seven.

Tyrese Cromer was the only Bulldog to score in each quarter, as he finished with 13 points.

Nick Paul scored eight of his 11 points in the second half, while the trio of Tyriq Goodman, Pat Paul and Jaleel Gilliam scored eight points apiece.

Terrell Rogers (five), Ahmad Willis (four), Darious Stephens-York (three), Ny Downing (two), and the lone free-throw from both Zay Chalmers and Kajuan Wise rounded out the Newberry (10-5) scoring.
