NEWBERRY — The Newberry College Athletic Club has had a record-breaking fundraising year for the Wolves’ primary fundraising arm.

The Athletic Club finished the 2014-15 fiscal year with record numbers, executive director Mike Hold said. Unrestricted giving was at an all-time high, as the Athletic Club raised $273,151. In addition, sport-specific giving finished at $136,637 and the membership base increased from 225 to 323.

“I’m pleased with the record numbers we achieved last fiscal year in the Athletic Club,” Hold said. “Our members have always been very generous with their resources to support our student-athletes. We look forward to another great year in 2015-16 and the initiatives we have laid out to improve even more.”

The Athletic Club fundraising was part of a record year for Newberry College as a whole. The college brought in $4.2 million in the 2014-15 fiscal year in all fundraising aspects.

“Our student-athletes, coaches and administration are exceptionally grateful to the Athletic Club and the membership for their continued and steadfast support of Newberry College athletics,” said athletic director Matt Finley. “The Athletic Club has traditionally been a group of Newberry’s biggest supporters campus-wide, and I’m pleased that we have that group behind us, wearing the scarlet and gray!”

As part of an expanded effort to meet 2015-16’s membership goal of 400 members, the Athletic Club kicked off a membership drive for September. Twenty Athletic Club members are competing in teams of five to raise as many members as they can in a four-team competition. The drive runs through Oct. 1.

The Club will have a member tent set up for Athletic Club members at halftime of every home football game this year. Sonic Drive-In of Newberry will be serving food at the tent.

For those interested in parking, the Athletic Club parking lots are filling up fast. To reserve a spot for football games, contact Sharon Bryant at 321-5152.
