NEWBERRY — Newberry Academy opened their home basketball schedule on Monday with wins over Greenwood Christian. The boys’ team won 56-43 and the girls won 57-51.

Tuesday, their fortunes turned with losses to Oakbrook. The boys lost 52-49 and the girls lost 61-32.

In the boys’ opener against Greenwood, center Wes Huffstetler dominated in the paint, recording 36 points and 18 rebounds. In the loss to Oakbrook, Huffstetler was still efficient, scoring 29 and grabbing 12 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles had four players in double figures against Greenwood, including Daja Taylor with 16 points, Michelle Brown with 15 points, Amber Suber with 14 points and Kathryn Wilbanks with 10 points. In the loss to Oakbrook, Taylor and Wilbanks both scratched out 12 points.

The Eagles will be traveling on Nov. 27 for a rematch against Greenwood Christian.
