NEWBERRY — Daphne Heyaime has been named D2 Women’s Soccer HERO of the Week, which is an award from HERO Sports that recognizes the best individual performances of the week for NCAA sports.

The sophomore forward was acknowledged for her performance last week when she scored in the 80th minute against Erskine allowing Newberry to go up 2-0 on Oct. 25 and the game-winning goal on Oct. 28 against Lenoir-Rhyne. This offensive outburst in last week’s contests aided Newberry in securing the final spot in the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship.

Heyaime received 41.76 percent of the votes, going up against nine other student-athletes.

This makes the third honor for Heyaime to conclude the 2017-2018 season as she was previously named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week (Oct. 30) and earned an honorable mention to the 2017 SAC All-Conference Team.
