NEWBERRY — The Newberry College Wolves’ field hockey team opened the season at home Saturday, falling just short of a win in a 3-2 double overtime loss to Indiana (Pa.).

Courtlyn Warren scored both goals for the Wolves in the second half. IUP scored one goal in the first half and one in the second half. Hayley Fidler scored at 7:07 in the first half which put the Wolves down early. Newberry battled for the rest of the half and came out motivated in the second half scoring two consecutive goals at 36:42 and 40:03.

IUP battled back and scored the game tying goal at 52:30. Regulation would finish tied and the game headed to overtime. With 10 minutes left in the first overtime period, there was a lightning delay for an hour and 19 minutes. Both teams came back out and finished the first overtime with the score still tied.

The second overtime started off with a penalty corner for IUP. Hayley Fidler snuck one by the goal keeper for the golden goal.

The Wolves host Kutztown (1-0) at noon Sunday.
