PROSPERITY — The Mid-Carolina Rebels are back at home tonight as they take on the 5-0 Abbeville High School Panthers at 7:30 p.m.

Leading up to tonight’s game, Mid-Carolina Coach Louie Alexander said that during practice this week, the team has been focusing on becoming more physical up front and at wideout.

“We have to be able to run the football and understand we have to stay in front of the chains. We have to minimize our mistakes and negate out negative yard plays. We’ve also worked on our special teams mistakes and blown coverages,” Alexander said.

After a nail-biter game last week against Ninety Six, Alexander wants his guys to continue to play with great effort but try to avoid making mental mistakes.

“Our kids played with great effort, but the mental mistakes that we’ve made have cost us dearly. We have to continue to play with that level of effort,” Alexander said.

Alexander added that in previous meet-ups with the Panthers, the team has competed well despite not producing wins.

“Abbeville runs the ‘A-Bone’ offensively and it’s really hard to simulate in practice. Defensively, they are physically talented and run well. For us to have a chance, we have to keep our defense off the field by getting some things going offensively. We have to sustain some drives and make them punt the football more,” Alexander said.

If the Rebels bring home the victory tonight, this will break the team’s 0-4 streak.

“We have good kids. They have responded each and every Monday. Obviously, we all are disappointed with the outcomes, but we can’t let our disappointment keep us from preparing for the next one. We are a better football team right now than we were at this time last year. We just have to keep preparing and play hard,” Alexander said.
