NEWBERRY — Newberry head women’s basketball coach Sean Page has added five players to the Wolves’ 2017-2018 roster in addition to his 12 returners.

Saylor Whitesides is a 5-3 guard from Lincolnton HS in Lincolnton, N.C. Known for her quickness, she displays a very high basketball IQ when it comes to passing and scoring. This skill set led her to be named team MVP as well as All-District and All-Conference three times.

Whitesides was also first team All-County and two-time MVP her junior season, while average 12 points per game and 5.6 assists per game. Her senior season was brought to a halt after a season ending injury. Her career stats were 816 points and 292 assists.

Ke’Shaun White is a 5-6 guard from Columbia HS in Lithonia, Ga. She brings height and physical defense, which showcases her tremendous rebounding abilities. White was a two-time All-Region selection and two-time DeKalb County Player of the Month.

During her senior season, she helped lead her team to the Georgia 5A Sweet 16. Her averages were 12.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and one block per game.

Daijah Cousins is a 5-3 guard from Loganville HS in Loganville, Ga. She is well-known for her point guard abilities. Cousins brings a great sense of leadership to the Wolves, as a four-year starter at Loganville. During her high school career, she averaged 11.6 points per game and 3.5 assists per game while leading her team to four consecutive Georgia 5A state playoffs.

Regan McCarty is a 6-1 combo player at both the forward and guard position. She transfers to Newberry after two seasons under Coach Ryan McAdams at Eastern Arizona Community Junior College. The Australia native’s average at EACC was 9.5 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game.

McCarty’s 2015-2016 season included a Regional Championship and NJCAA D1 National Tournament, advancing to the second round. She also made the Queensland All-State at the Australia National Championship, U/16 and U/18.

Georgia Elliott-King is a 5-10 stretch transfer from Charleston Southern University. She is originally from Northampton, England. Her freshman year at CSU, she played in 12 games and averaged 2.5 points per game while shooting 47 percent from behind the arc.

In England, she played at Charnwood College and the Great Brittan National Team at the European Championships in U/16, U/18, and U/20. Elliott-King brings international and NCAA DI play to the program. Her size and ability to score allows her to be another reliable scoring option.

To inaugurate the 2017 season, Newberry will play in the Conference Carolinas South Atlantic Conference Showdown Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 against Limestone and Belmont Abbey.
