ROCK HILL — Newberry’s cross country teams traveled to compete in the Winthrop Adidas Invitational Sept. 16 at 9 a.m. The event was hosted by the Winthrop Eagles and included the men’s 8k and women’s 5k.

The men placed third overall out of the nine teams that competed, immediately behind Georgia College and West Virginia Wesleyan. The Wolves had six runners in this meet with two finishing in the top 20. Caleb Bouwkamp finished first for Newberry coming in 15th overall with a time of 28:42.51.

Following closely behind, Quinn Wilson came in 16th overall at 28:44.61. Carlos Hernandez (29:34.12) finished slightly outside of the top 20, coming in 22nd place.

Rounding out the rest Newberry’s runners were Jorge Hernandez (29:49.56), Shelton Reynolds (31:05.55), and Justin Oglesby (37:51.51).

The women finished in fifth behind West Virginia Wesleyan, Georgia College, Spartanburg Methodist, and Columbia (S.C.). Out of the seven runners for Newberry, Hayden Francis’ top ten performance carried over into this meet with her placing seventh with a time of 20:47.03.

The next finishers for Newberry were Michelle Ling and Alex Zimmer with times of 22:55.01 and 23:11.76 respectively.

Katy Crout (25:02.67), Rebecca Burkhart (25:3959), Brittani Barratt (25:46.80), and Alyssa White (25:56.93) rounded out the rest of Newberry’s runners.

Their next meet will be the USC Upstate Invitational on Sept. 30 at the Spartanburg Milliken Center starting at 9 a.m.
