PROSPERITY — In their first game of the season, the Mid-Carolina High School Rebels are looking forward to a fresh start as they hit the road to face off against the Chapin High School Eagles at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

To prepare for the Eagles, head coach Louie Alexander said it was all about going back to the fundamentals this week.

“We’ve been going back to the fundamentals and working on what we can control. The big thing for us is working on mistakes that we made during the preseason,” Alexander said.

In past meet-ups, Alexander said there has always been a big rivalry between the two teams.

“It’s been a big rivalry in the sense that we’re 10 minutes away. The last couple of years have gone well for us and last year we lost a heartbreaker with an 11-point lead with about three minutes to go,” said Alexander.

Alexander is continuing to prepare his offensive and defensive line for the Eagles, which he hopes will allow for positive results on both sides of the ball.

“I don’t want to point out any specific players to look out for, but for us to have a chance, we have to play well up front on both sides of the ball,” he said. “This year, we’re trying to be a more ball control offense and relying on big plays. We have to keep our defense off the field and sustain some drives and take time off of the clock.

“We’re just continuing to do little things that will keep our offense out on the field, that’s what we’re looking to do,” he added. “Chapin is a very talented team on both sides of the ball. If you want to beat them, you have to beat them. They won’t give you anything.”
