NEWBERRY — The Newberry College women’s soccer team has been predicted to finish in fourth place in the South Atlantic Conference in 2015, according to a preseason coaches poll released Monday.

Lenoir-Rhyne was picked as the favorites with 127 points, followed by Wingate then Lincoln Memorial. Newberry landed in fourth place with 95 points, ahead of Catawba who picked up 90 points. Tusculum, Queens, Anderson, Carson-Newman and Coker complete the top 10 of the poll.

The Wolves are led by second-year head coach Deedee Sanguinetti, who earned 2014 South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year honors. The Wolves posted a 10-5-4 overall record last season and went 8-2-1 in SAC games. Despite losing a big group from the 2014 season, Sanguinetti is hopeful for a successful season this year.

“We have a great returning class and a solid incoming class that will continue the success of the program,” Sanguinetti said. “While we have no superstars now, we expect to become a well-oiled machine and work together to achieve greatness.”

Newberry opens the season on Sept. 4 against Tampa at noon in Columbus, Ga. The home opener is Sept. 16 against conference rival Catawba.
