NEWBERRY — On June 9, the Aiken America Team came to the Smith Road Complex, hosted by Chapin-Newberry team.

Kyle McCary earned the victory by pitching 5 1/3 innings as Preston Farmer pitched the last 1 2/3. McCary struck out 10 batters while Farmer had two strikeouts. The two combined for only three hits. Aiken used three pitchers, giving up 10 hits and 10 walks.

On June 12, Chapin-Newberry travelled to Lexington to play Post 7, and the tables were reversed. Lexington defeated C-N by the 10-run run, 11-1. C-N scored their lone run in the first inning, when Chandler Todd singled on a 0-1 count.

Lexington tied the game in the second, added nine runs in the sixth, and the knockout punch in the bottom of the eighth on an error. Jon Scott limited C-N to four hits, striking out four, and walking four, earning the victory. For C-N, Jordan Beatson took the loss, yielding 11 hits, with Preston Farmer coming in to finish the last inning

“It was a rough night for us,” first year head coach David Coates said. “It was a good pitcher’s dual early, and then as the game progressed, they had one inning where it seemed like they couldn’t make a mistake and we couldn’t do anything right. That happens sometimes in this game.”

Chapin-Newberry hosted Lexington Tuesday night in a double header.
