NEWBERRY — Outfielder Daymon Totherow and designated hitter Ben Herring have been named Honorable Mention All-Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America.

Totherow continues to receive accolades after being named first team all-South Atlantic Conference and the league’s Gold Glove Right Fielder last month. He started 51 of Newberry’s 53 games in right field and compiled impressive numbers.

The senior was second on the team with a .351 batting average and slugged .463 with 16 extra-base hits. He reached base safely in the first 20 games of the season, had multiple hits in 20 games, and recorded multiple RBI in 10. He was successful on 22 of his 29 stolen base attempts, the second-highest stolen base total in school history. He also recorded six of the team’s nine outfield assists, including cutting down five runners at the plate.

Herring was Newberry’s most potent offensive player in his designated hitter role this season, leading the team with a .362 batting average and a .507 slugging percentage while finishing third with 40 RBI. His batting average climbed to .447 against left-handed pitching and reached a gaudy .714 in pinch hit situations.

The first team all-SAC selection reached base in as many as 16 straight games and recorded three games with at least four hits. The junior was also named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
