NEWBERRY The Newberry women’s lacrosse team (5-9, 1-4 SAC) fell in a conference contest to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne (10-3, 5-1 SAC) by a final score of 16-4 at Setzler Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears took an early lead with three goals in the first three minutes before Newberry answered to get on the board.

Helen Kuhn scored to kick off the first half action for Newberry, putting home a shot on a dish from Olivia Knight. Rachel Dillon wrapped up the Newberry offense for the first half, scoring her second and final goal of the day with less than 2:00 left on the clock.

Brandy Bowman tallied nine saves for the Scarlet and Gray, moving to 160 total season saves and retaining her position as the leader in the nation in saves and saves per game.

Gabby Sousa led the offense for Lenoir-Rhyne with five goals on seven shots, adding to her team-high of 27 goals this season. Freshman Cathleen Gaffney added three to the L-R total.

SCAD Savannah has been ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Top 10 Poll for five straight weeks.
