TIGERVILLE — The Newberry women’s tennis team earned its first win of the spring season over North Greenville 7-2 on Friday at the Vance Tennis Complex.
Newberry (5-2) opened the match by taking two of three doubles flights against North Greenville (0-4). Amanda Carrillo and Elizabeth Williamson were 8-1 winners at No. 1 while Veronika Viegas and Lucia Davia scored an 8-3 win at No. 3.
The Wolves then won five of six singles matches over the Crusaders. Carrillo was a 6-4, 6-7, 10-3 winner at No. 1, Williamson won in straight sets at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4. Davia battled to a three-set win, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6, at No. 3.
Rebeca Martinez won at No. 4 by way of a 6-4, 6-1 decision, and Viegas concluded singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
