NEWBERRY — Newberry College’s director of athletics has been appointed to the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Committee beginning Sept. 1.

Matt Finley will serve a four-year term on the national committee, which will run through August 2019.

Finley has served as director of athletics at Newberry College since 2012 and is one of the youngest athletics directors in all three divisions of the NCAA. Finley has been with Newberry’s athletic department since 2005 and served in multiple positions within the administration of the athletic department since 2010.

“I’m honored to be chosen to serve on the Division II Field Hockey committee,” Finley said. “I am excited about the new platform of Make it Yours for our student athletes in NCAA Division II and look forward to working with the other member institutions on the field hockey committee.”

Finley is one of two administrators on the four-person field hockey committee, replacing Bloomsburg AD Kevin Wood, whose term expires at the end of August.

Division II sport committees conduct their respective Division II championship and develop policies and procedures to administer the championship in an efficient and orderly manner. Sport committees report directly to the Championships Committee, which helps direct and approve recommendations or policies and procedures from the sport committees. Sport committee members also chair regional advisory committees (RACs), oversee selections to national championships and serve as the NCAA representative during preliminary-round competition and championship finals.
