NEWBERRY — For the third time this season and fourth in his career, Raleigh Yeldell has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Yeldell led Newberry to its sixth consecutive win and a 4-0 mark in the SAC with a 313-yard, four-touchdown performance against Carson-Newman before a near-record crowd of 4,988 fans at Setzler Field on Saturday afternoon. He completed 71.1 percent of his passes (27-for-38), and each touchdown pass went to a different receiver. Eight different players tallied at least one reception.

The senior continued his assault on the Newberry record books with his ninth career game of at least 250 passing yards. He became the seventh player in school history to throw for at least 2,000 yards in a season and moved from 10th to fifth in single-season passing yardage.

Including his 23 rushing yards in the contest, he moved into third-place all-time in total offense with 6,037 yards in his career. His 2,469 yards of offense in 2016 place him 745 shy of breaking Josh Stepp’s single-season record that has stood since 2004.

Behind Yeldell’s leadership, the Wolves’ offense has outgained their opponents in both total yards and passing yardage in every game this season. Newberry will attempt to win its seventh consecutive game on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Brevard.
