NEWBERRY — Head wrestling coach Cy Wainwright and assistant coach R.C. LaHaye will host the 2016 Fall Wrestling Clinic and Showcase on Oct. 29.

The event will begin with a check-in at 9:30 a.m. at the Newberry Wrestling Complex on Harrington Street. Wrestlers will attend two 90-minute sessions, one with each coach, which will be followed by lunch and team wrestle-offs.

All participants will head to Setzler Field at 3 p.m. for a tailgate before Newberry faces Lenoir-Rhyne in a football battle for the Bishop’s Trophy. A complimentary ticket will be included with each wrestler’s $50 registration fee.

Both Newberry coaches bring a wealth of wrestling knowledge and experience to the clinic. Wainwright was inducted into the Newberry College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015 after an incredible career in scarlet and gray, including a heavyweight national championship that capped off an undefeated 2008-09 season.

He became the second head coach in Newberry history in May after three years at the helm of the Coker program, leading the Cobras to a .717 winning percentage. He has coached 11 All-Americans.

LaHaye is entering his third season with the Wolves after starting the wrestling program at Grand Canyon University, coaching the Antelopes to a 77-55-2 mark in seven seasons at the helm. He has coached four national champions and 15 All-Americans, earning All-America distinction himself in 2004 as a wrestler at Western State.
