WHITMIRE — The Whitmire High School Wolverines will travel two hours to Calhoun Falls tonight in their last away game of the regular season to take on the Calhoun Falls Charter Blue Flashes.
The Wolverines currently have a 3-4 overall standing and a 1-0 region record. The Blue Flashes have an overall record of 1-5 and an 0-2 region standing.
The Wolverines have had great success with away games this season as their three wins have been away games.
“Less distractions on the road, all business and when you travel you are on a stricter timeline which is good for us,” said Head Coach Charlie Jenkins.
The Wolverines had an off week and did not play last Friday. Jenkins said he thinks they are rested, healthy and focused for this three game run that will decide the region championship.
The Wolverines and Blue Flashes have played each other on and off since 1974. For the last two years the Wolverines have defeated the Blue Flashes, last year the final score was 42-6 and the year before that the score was 42-0.
“We do not take anything for granted, I will take a 6-0 win and be happy, but I expect us to play well,” Jenkins said.
The Blue Flashes offensive strategy is kind of a mix bag, meaning they do a little bit of everything. In preparation for this game the Wolverines have been working on the basics on offense and defensively Jenkins said they often have to scheme a little bit.
In order to win Jenkins said they will have to do the same as always.
“Keep the ball away from them by controlling the ball with our offense. Defensively we have to play team defense,” he said. “Everybody has to do their job in keeping Calhoun Falls quick guys from breaking a long one on us.”
Kick off will be at 7:30 p.m. in Calhoun Falls.
