NEWBERRY — The Newberry College field hockey team (4-6, 1-4 ECAC) had its first ever winning streak snapped as Limestone (8-4, 4-1 ECAC) defeated the Wolves 6-0 Sunday afternoon at Setzler Field.

Limestone are currently on top of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Field Hockey league standings and were named the preseason favorite.

After Dakota Elzy made a save on the initial shot, Marina Jozoko finished a cross to put the Saints ahead 1-0 in the 17th minute.

Newberry had an opportunity in the 22nd minute off a penalty corner. Kayla Cooke received a pass into the circle and took a shot that was blocked by a Limestone defender. The Saints led 2-0 at halftime.

Elzy made a diving save on Cameron Felch’s shot in the 58th minute to keep Limestone off the board.

The Wolves had a chance to score towards the end of the second half. Kristyna Oyola had a penalty corner and crossed it into the box. Caitlyn Warren ripped a shot that sailed just right of the cage. Elzy notched another save towards the end of the contest off a Limestone corner. The Saints scored four second half goals to win 6-0.

Elzy made four saves on the afternoon for the Wolves. Three Limestone goalies shared in the shutout as Tabria Cochran notched the win.

Kate Norman scored three goals for Limestone in the victory and took a match-high four shots. Cassidy Coates notched two assists.

Newberry will face Centre (9-3) in a non-conference matchup on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Setzler Field.
