SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Newberry sits in ninth place at 36 strokes over par, 25 shots back of leader West Georgia, after one round of the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial.

The Wolves shot an opening-round 324, finishing the day 36 strokes over par. The Wolves are six shots behind the tournament hosts for eighth place. Seven South Atlantic Conference schools make up nearly half of the 16-team field, with all seven institutions clumped in positions two through nine in the standings within 16 strokes of each other.

Individually, Newberry was paced by Taylor Lance’s five-over 77, placing her in a 10-way tie for 12th position. Finishing three strokes back of Lance was Karley Mims.

Johana Lunackova was 10 strokes over par, with Nabila Inak and Annabelle Dallery closing the round at 13 over. The Wolves placed all five golfers in the top two-thirds of the field comprising 91 golfers.

West Georgia led the way with an 11-over 299 through the first 18 holes, and saw two individuals, Franziska Bremm and leader Maria Torres, finish the round inside the top three. Torres was the only golfer to shoot under par Monday, shooting two-under on the front nine and holding steady on the back to finish three strokes clear of the field.
