WHITMIRE — The Whitmire High School Wolverines are now 2-4 after losing to the Bethune-Bowman High School Mohawks during the Wolverines Homecoming game Friday night.
Friday’s game started off slow, and the first touchdown of the night happened with two minutes left to go in the first quarter.
The Mohawks player scored even with a slew of Wolverines attempting to stop him. The Wolverines did stop the Mohawks from making the two-point conversion and the first quarter ended 6-0 in favor of the Mohawks.
The second quarter saw better luck for the Wolverines when Avery Renwick scored a touchdown with 10 minutes on the clock.
Renwick would not let the Mohawks stop him as he was almost tackled during the play, but he kept going and scored. With the same determination as Renwick, Devin Vo got the two point conversion and the Wolverines were ahead 8-6.
The Wolverines continued their good luck and with a little under four minutes on the clock once again scored when Chase McCarley scored a touchdown. However, the Mohawks did not take this lying down, and shortly after made their own touchdown, and successfully made the two point conversion.
The first half ended with a tied score of 14-14.
The Mohawks came back in the third quarter looking to score, and with a successful touchdown pass they moved ahead of the Wolverines 20-14. The two point conversion was not successful.
The Wolverines came back with their own touchdown, but were unable to make the two point conversion. The third quarter ended with a tied score of 20-20.
When the fourth quarter began, both teams knew they either had to score, or they would go into overtime. The Mohawks were first to score with eight minutes on the clock, and successfully made the two point conversion. This made the score 26-20.
The Wolverines now knew they had to score to have a chance, but so did the Mohawks. With a 66 yard touchdown run the score now became 34-20 in the Mohawks favor. The Wolverines were not done and Renwick was able to make a 58 yard touchdown run, but the two point conversion was no good.
The final score was 34-26.
