NEWBERRY — Newberry College junior Dakota Elzy and freshman Kristyna Oyola have been named Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Field Hockey League Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively for the week ending Sept. 18.

Elzy notched two key saves in Newberry’s 2-1 victory over Belmont Abbey last Wednesday for the Wolves’ first win of the season. She also posted a season-high nine saves against Limestone last Friday. The Wolves held the Saints to one goal for the majority of the game before surrendering two goals towards the end of the contest.

Oyola picked up her first collegiate assist on Caitlyn Warren’s first goal against Belmont Abbey. She registered a shot on goal in Newberry’s loss to Limestone.

Newberry plays back-to-back games at Bellarmine and Lindenwood this Friday and Saturday.

The pair also received the ECAC Division II Field Hockey League weekly award.
