SPARTANBURG — After its first 18 holes of competition in the fall season, the Newberry women’s golf team sat in second place at the Converse Fall Invitational by Founders Federal Credit Union.

The Wolves fired a 317 on the par-72 course at the Carolina Country Club, sitting 20 shots behind first-round leader USC Beaufort. Newberry outpaced host Converse by three shots and is 18 strokes ahead of fourth-place Emmanuel. Pfeiffer, North Greenville, and Chowan round out the leaderboard in the seven-team tournament.

Nabila Inak is in sole possession of sixth place after shooting a four-over 76. Mariam Colon and Karly Mims were deadlocked in 12th position at eight strokes over par, with Taylor Lance rounding out the Wolves’ scorers with a 14th-place performance at nine over.

Annabelle Dallery, competing as an individual, and Johana Lunackova were 14 and 15 strokes over par, respectively.

USC Beaufort’s Franzi Knoetsch fired an even-par 72 on Monday, sitting two shots clear of teammates Moa Kristenson and Blanca Porta in second place.
