NEWBERRY — Bentley (2-2) defeated the Newberry College field hockey team (0-2) 4-0 in non-conference action Saturday at Setzler Field.

The game was scoreless for nearly 18 minutes before Kelly Ingersoll found the back of the net for Bentley. The Falcons scored two minutes later to make the score 2-0. Mikayla Ullrich assisted both goals for Bentley.

Dakota Elzy made four saves in the first half. The Falcons scored just before halftime to push the lead to 3-0.

Early in the second half, Sam Pavano scored for the Falcons. Newberry’s defense held strong the rest of the game. The Wolves had nine penalty corners in the last 35 minutes.

Kristyna Oyola set up great scoring chances for Newberry in the last two minutes. Daja Graham’s shot went just wide in the 69th minute as Bentley weathered the storm to preserve the shutout.

Courtlyn Warren led the Wolves with four shots, three of which were on goal. Jessica Cooke, Alexandria Gadson and Kayla Cooke all registered shots on target for Newberry.

Elzy moves to 0-2 after stopping a season-high seven shots. Evelyn Schaedel notched the win for Bentley after turning away two shots in the first half.

Newberry’s next contest will be Wednesday when the Wolves face ECAC newcomer Belmont Abbey (0-2). Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
