NEWBERRY – The Newberry County Sheriff’s Department has issued an advisory warning residents of computer hacking that is taking place in the area.According to a Nixle alert issued Saturday morning:A virus will take over your computer and encrypt your data, indicating that the hacker is with law enforcement or the FBI and that you have been looking at child pornography. It will also indicate that your computer has been locked.You will be asked to send money to a location to unlock your computer and remove the pornography. The threat is that you will comply or your data will be kept and you will be arrested.


Wolverines taken down by Sabres

Simpsonville — The Whitmire Community School’s Wolverines were defeated last night to the Southside Christian High School’s Sabres in an away game.The Wolverines fought hard, managing to gain 14 points on the board. However, it was not enough against the Sabres, who were able to put 33 points on the board. This takes the Wolverines to 0-3 in the region and 3-5 overall. The Sabres are now 1-1 in the region and 5-3 overall.

WHITMIRE — On Oct. 3, Whitmire Community School held its annual youth night, following a Whitmire tradition at Whitmire honor the future Wolverines.The event started on Sept. 13 with Coach Gwen Clark’s WHS Cheer Clinic. The young girls danced with the WHS cheerleaders, who taught them to the song “Me and My Girls” by Fifth Harmony. The dance was performed during halftime, along with a couple of cheers. Whitmire girls tennis update

WHITMIRE — Whitmire Community School’s girls tennis team played in three matches this past week, one against Abbeville and two against Fox Creek.Whitmire lost 0-7 to Abbeville. Singles players included Bethany Cromer, Rebecca Glymph, Haven Coppock, Alexis Swain and Lauren Couch. However Cromer had to retire her match due to an injury.
