Academy helps boost interest in theater

NEWBERRY — For the past three weeks, the Newberry Community Players has been holding a free Teen Theater Academy for interested children and teenagers.The academy, which was started four years ago, educates the interested youths in acting, set design, play writing and costumes as a way to promote creativity.“Nowadays, schools offer very little theater, and that is a shame because children who do theater end up being better writers and speakers,” said Ellen Hunt, board chair and artistic director of the Newberry Community Players.Hunt is the main voice behind the academy.

 

National Night Out event is Aug. 5

Wayfinding system to soon be in place for Newberry
