Get in back-to-school shape with a Zumbathon on Sunday.
Zumba instructor and event organizer Jessica Grimsley-Norman has put together a back-to-school Zumba bash to help out all the elementary schools in Newberry County.
“This is a great way for those who haven’t experienced Zumba to experience it,” says Grimsley-Norman, who points out that the eight instructors have something for everyone.
Dancing expertise is not required because the instructors are all suited for beginners to advanced Zumba fans.
The instructors include three from Newberry County and they are Grimsley-Norman, Angela Faulkenburg and Maria Floyd. There are also a couple instructors from Northeast Columbia, one from Irmo, one from Lexington and one from Chapin.
The event will be held in the Newberry YCMA’s basketball gym from 4-6 p.m. and people may either bring a $5 cash donation or $5 worth of school supplies. Checks may also be written out to Grimsley-Norman who will cash it and donate to the schools.
Each participant is asked to come and represent the elementary school of their choice as there will be a box set up for each elementary school as well as a box for monetary donations.
As an added bonus, the school which has the most representation at the Zumbathon will receive a $25 gift card to use for school supplies.
If people cannot attend the Zumbathon, they may still make donations between Wednesday and Sunday at the YCMA.
If there are any questions, people may contact Grimsley-Norman at 319-3362 or the YMCA at 276-9936.
