PROSPERITY — Mid-Carolina senior Zane Spigner has signed to wrestle for the Newberry College Wolves taking his wrestling talent further into college.
All throughout high school for all four years, Spigner has wrestled as it was his only sport of choice, said his mother Lisa Spigner.
Spigner’s talent led him to win 2A Regionals in his weight class his senior year and he qualified for upperstate as well.
Mid-Carolina Athletic Director Louie Alexander describes Spigner as “tenacious.”
Spigner said that despite everything he doesn’t give up.
“I never stop,” he said. “I’m very determined and am a relentless wrestler.”
His relentlessness began in ninth grade when Coach Kyle Cannon was the wrestling caoch and asked Spigner to wrestle for the Rebels.
“Coach Cannon liked his agility and told him he wanted to wrestle,” said Lisa Spigner. “He said yes and began his wrestling career.”
He has also participated in Newberry College wrestling camps with the college wrestling coach Jason Valek, his mother adds.
Spigner is looking to study business in college, or at least for now, he adds.
