Chamber to host golf tournament

The 20th Annual Newberry County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held at the Country Club of Newberry on Monday, Oct. 8.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon.

All participants will receive a complimentary lunch and rib eye steak dinner, including two drink tickets.

Lunch is sponsored by Mac Bell with Sonic Drive-In.

Dinner following the tournament is sponsored by Southeastern Insurance Consultants.

For those who do not play golf, additional steak dinner tickets, which include two drink tickets, are available for $25 per dinner ticket.

Contest packages, a putting contest, a Dixon Golf Challenge, and great prizes will be offered.

First hole-in-one on number 17 wins a car sponsored by Stokes-Trainor Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC.

First hole-in-one on number 3 wins a lawn mower sponsored by Hedgepath Outdoor Power Equipment.

A goal of $20,000 has been set for the 20th year.

A LARGE ALLIGATOR SNAPPER TURTLE POSSIBLY 80 YRS. OLD. HE WAS DISCOVERED IN A DRIVEWAY ON SILAS ST. THURSDAY AFTERNOON. AN OFFICER WAS FLAGGED DOWN AND HE SENT FOR A DNR OFFICER. THE DNR OFFICER WAS ABLE TO GET THE TURTLE IN A TUB, AND NOTED THIS WAS THE THIRD ONE THIS YEAR HE HAS PICKED UP.
