Congratulations to Whitmire’s own Alexandria Cromer. Alex was crowned Miss Junior 2013 Newberry College, on Feb. 9 during the pageant at the Newberry Op[era House. .
Alex is the daughter of Paige and Jim Cromer, niece of Paula Lusk Couch and granddaughter of Mrs. Janie and the late Earl “Spud” Lusk.
The members of Bethesda Baptist Church held their Valentine’s banquet Sunday, Feb. 10. The members and guests enjoyed a guest speaker, Jeanette Browning Nelson. Nelson is an artist and art teacher at Clinton High School. A crowning ceremony for the Valentine’s Day royalty included: Prince Bradley Crumpton, Princess Savannah Summer, King Ron Mackey and Queen Chelsie Stevenson. The members also recognized member Johnny Alexander’s birthday and his recent retirement. Sounds like everything was done Whitmire Style which means “a delicious meal was served and a good time was had by all.”
The Whitmire Community School fourth grade class will host a play and special talent show, Feb. 28 in the gym at 6 p.m. Parents, and friends are invited to attend.
Congratulations to Whitmire Town Council Member Dwight Lane. Dwight attended The South Carolina Municipal Association’s Elected Officials Institute over the past two years. Lane received his Certificate of Completion. The institute offers networking and training for elected officials in various formats, workshops, seminars, tours of state government facilities, and guest speakers from state government.
A reminder to residents: a public meeting is tonight, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at The Whitmire Community Center. This public town hall style meeting will be conducted by the mayor and town council. The floor will be open for citizens and residents can voice their opinions, share ideas, and communicate their concerns to local government officials. One topic, the town’s recreation department, will a subject of interest. Business owners, WCS faculty and staff, civic groups, students, county officials are strongly encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served drop style and served at 5:30 p.m. prior to meeting.
