The Town of Whitmire, Mayor Billy Hollingsworth and town council members invite and encourage all Whitmire residents, business owner, WCS faculty and staff, county officers to attend the Town Hall style public meeting 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 at the Whitmire Community Center.
The purpose of the meeting is to encourage citizens to share ideas, ask questions and communicate with each other. Questions will be answered and information will be provided. Light refreshments will be served between 5:30 and 6 p.m. Periodic updates and information can be found on the Town of Whitmire’s Facebook page.
The TERA (Tyger-Enoree River Alliance) group met Friday night Jan. 18 at Roche’s Barn to discuss upcoming fundraisers and canoe trips. The Whitmire based non-profit organization members will soon begin repairs and painting their new location at the end of Main Street and Railroad Avenue.
The organization raises money through festivals and outdoorman type events. They also have items for sale such as leather necklaces, caps, T-shirts. Proceeds from the sales go directly to the organization. The items can be ordered and purchased through their website at www.kickstarter.com/projects/1702013052/enoree-acorn-tee-shirts?ref=category.
While at TERA’s Friday meeting, I learned from leader Jon Durham that acorn don’t taste good, but they can be boiled and the juice can be used as dye. The acorn T-shirts are printed with this dye.
Individuals and groups are welcome to sign up for the spring canoe trips. The TERA vans hold 10 people and the canoes are provided. However if groups bring more than 10, they may participate if they furnish transportation and canoes.
Contact Jon Durham at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. The organization also has a Facebook page.
Alright readers, it’s time for the other winged entity to sit on my keys. Speak of the devil, oops, there he is, Garabund the Deadline Fairy. In completing this weeks news, or should I say lack of news bits, due to the holiday lag between events. The weather forecast predicts for snow or ice. Not having my crystal ball here in front of me, I can’t tell, but my joints and bones ache as the old folks say. A cloud’s a comin’ from somewhere. We’ll talk about the weather next week, along with a mention of spring training for Atlanta Braves baseball. In the meantime, send your news bits and photos to email@example.com.
