NEWBERRY — Opal Barker Anderson went to see Jesus on Dec. 5, 2012.

She was born on May 19, 1927 in Elberton, Ga. to the late Arthur A. and Mary Wells Barker

She was married 64 years to Henry Anderson and they were the parents of two children. Opal was a dairy farmer’s wife who cooked three hardy meals a day and took no vacations for her chores. In her younger days, Opal played softball and coached a women’s team for years at Newberry City Recreation Department.

She was fun-loving, young at heart, loved a good auction, and managed her hobbies of gardening, sewing, reading, but most of all spending precious time with her family, especially her grandchildren and their children.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children Barbara (Ken) Riebe and Bill (Janice) Anderson; five grandchildren, Mark (Jill) Riebe, Matthew (Michelle) Riebe, Michelle (Scott) Rush, Morgan Anderson and James (Brittany) Hazel; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary B. Ellison and Dorothy B. Davis. She was predeceased by a sister, Glenda Ward and brothers Claude, Charlie, Rudolph, Pete, Sam, Marcell “Nub”, Leroy “Tiny” and Arthur “Bubba” Barker.

The family wishes to thank White Oak Manor staff for the excellent care provided to Opal over the past months.

She made new and endearing friends who laughed and cried with her along the way.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe.
