NEWBERRY — Visitors and locals gathered at the Newberry Opera House Monday night to bring in a new year.

Beginning at 8 p.m., New Year’s revelers gathered for much socializing and music. The Dick Goodwin band played on throughout the night along with other entertainers including Serena Hill and Clay Brown.

Throughout the performances, couples checked out of their seats for some traditional dancing or for some swing-style dancing for the more upbeat tunes.

However, in the last half hour before midnight, people headed towards the lobby for some New Year’s gear to reign it in. While it was not a New York City Times Square event as pointed out by spectators, the event drew in an almost packed house to the city.

The countdown began and confetti and balloons were thrown from the clock of the Opera House while fireworks went off in the distance signaling that the year 2013 is here.
