The Newberry Academy Junior Civitan club held its annual initiation and installation ceremony on Sept. 20 in the Newberry Academy gym.

The purpose of the ceremony was to welcome and initiate new members and to install the club officers for 2012-13. All Junior Civitan club members and their families were invited in order to give parents an opportunity to hear about some of the many projects that the Junior Civitans are involved in throughout the year. The ceremony was preceded by a covered-dish dinner.

On Sept. 15, five Junior Civitan club officers and one advisor traveled to Irmo High School to participate in the South Carolina District’s annual club officer and advisor training session.

While there, the officers attended workshops for their respective positions, were informed about the district’s upcoming projects, and learned more about what it means to be a Junior Civitan.
