Hello everyone, Happy Thanksgiving week to you and your families. We have local news on the way, so let’s send our birthday and anniversary wishes from Gottrocks the Birthday Fairy.

Happy Birthday to residents and our former Whitmire residents: Hunter Wagner, Juliane Whisenant, Alex Swain, Blair “Grand Illusion” Williams, Munson “Music” Summer, Emma Jeter, Ron Eison, Hugh Coleman Jr. and Kelly Goodyear, former Whitmire Scorpios. We send our happy anniversary wishes to Donna and Tony Felker. The couple recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. Both Donna and Tony are Whitmire High seventies graduates. I am sure sister-in-law Janet, Tony’s baby sister had something festive planned for the couple.

Happy anniversary to Penny G. and and Fred Howard on the recent celebration of their wedding anniversary.

On a sad note, we send our sympathy and best wishes to the families of former resident Mr. Calvin Stroud, Mrs. Mary Williamson and Mrs. Bessie Cox.

People in the news

Whitmire area Veterans were recognized and honored at Whitmire Community School last Monday. The program was held in the gymnasium lead by Principal Joey Haney and several students. The WCS concert band performed special military music for each branch of the service, as veterans from each branch stood.

Guest speaker was Ret. Col. S.C. Air National Guard Scott Cain. Scott is a decorated combat pilot, who earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Noble Eagle. He is also a member of Whitmire Post #70 Veterans group. Scott recognized Wolverine Committed to Success and invited Wolverine cheerleaders to lead a special Wolverine cheer. Whitmire’s Veterans in attendance included Post Commander Thomas Crisp, several World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Veterans. The school cafeteria staff provided a special luncheon for the veterans and their guests in a VIP room near the cafeteria. Thank you to all who participated to make this a special Veterans Day for both students and our veterans.

Well alright readers, I don’t need a watch to tell me its that time again. You know how Garabund, the Deadline Fairy is about attending his family functions, so we close for now and wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and Black Friday survival. Let’s meet here to chat again next week.
