Eagles swim to win

The Newberry Academy swim team competed at a meet in Spartanburg last week, with the boys’ team cruising to another win.

The girls continued to improve and attempt to get swimmers qualified for the SCISA State Meet in October.

The Newberry Academy girls’ 200 yard medley relay team finished second in their event.

The individual swimmers included Rachel Buzhardt, Amber Suber, Darby Dail and Amanda Crayne.

The boys’ 200 yard medley team took first place, with the swimmers Alex Cole, Jake Buzhardt, Dylan Skipper and Jacob Epting.

In the 200 yard individual medley event, Crayne took second place for the girls while Justin Suber took first place for the boys.

In the 50 yard freestyle event, Newberry took second and third place for the boys with Daniel Shuler and Skipper.

Meagan Bedenbaugh was the top girls’ finisher in the event with eighth place.

The boys’ team swept the top three spots in the 100 Yard Butterfly, with Epting taking first, Suber second and Cole third.

In the 100 yard freestyle, the girls’ team took first and second with Rachel Buzhardt and Crayne. Shuler took second in the boys’ event.

Joshua Sawyer and Sean Blanton placed second and fourth respectively in the difficult 500 yard freestyle.

The Newberry Academy boys’ team won the 200 yard freestyle relay, with the swimmers Shuler, Epting, Suber and Skipper.

Cole took first in the Boys’ 100 yard backstroke, and Skipper took second in the 100 yard breaststroke.

It was another good showing for both teams as they prepare for a meet in Sumter this Saturday, and wrap up the regular season on Sept. 29 at Hilton Head.
