NEWBERRY — Main Street was filled with about 400 bikes and close to double that in bikers Saturday.
Thanks to the giving hearts of the bikers who drove from Chapin to Newberry Saturday in the Harley Davidson Toy Run, children in Newberry were able to receive gifts that they would not otherwise receive.
Not only were there motorcycles, but a handful of cars and trucks came with the crew which were overflowing with gifts.
The event has ran for about 14 years now, according to Michael Davis, director of Boys Farm. He’s been involved for 11 of those years.
All of the boys who stay at Boys Farm will receive gifts and since there is plenty to go around, other less fortunate children will also receive gifts.
Davis says the boys have been anticipating and talking up the event for weeks now.
As they watched the bikers come in, their excitement was contagious as they waved and a few even counted how many bikes there were.
Newberry Opera House employee Donna Wicker heads up the event and in the opera house, which overflowed with bikers and kids, she thanked everyone for participating because it wouldn’t happen without them.
One biker then shouted out his appreciation saying that the bikers would not be there if it weren’t for the kids.
Another biker said they are just “living by example” as he threw out a Bible verse.
As gifts were strewn out across tables in the Opera House, children would select what they wanted making their Christmas a bit brighter.
