I have been involved heavily in the game of basketball for over 40 years and I just wanted to say thank you to the Newberry High Basketball Team for the excitement and fun they have brought to this incredible town.
What they have accomplished over the past two years is just unbelievable. Two Upper State Championships, two Christmas Tournament Titles, wins over much larger schools, 51 wins and most these by blowout margins.
Coach Chad Cary, Adonis Hill and Mike Hughes I salute you, as do all of us basketball junkies for what you have accomplished and the way you have done it.
We live in an incredibly selfish world and I believe the world of athletics is even more selfish. These coaches have molded young men into the most unselfish group I have ever witnessed. Playing 13-16 guys regularly (unheard of in the game of basketball), these young men played so hard and so together.
There are two to three guys on the team that could have easily averaged 30 points per game. These same young men, would dive for loose balls, take charges, make the extra pass, and then would score seven points and then cheer wildly from the bench for their younger teammates who would get in the games late.
This Newberry team won many games by 25 points or more with only one and sometimes not even one player on the team scoring in double figures (another unheard of statistic).
Newberry High Basketball, you have created lifetime memories for your student athletes, for your faculty and staff and for us, the members of your community.
You got an entire town to go both the Bi-Lo and Colonial Life arenas to show their support for you. I have never enjoyed watching the game of basketball so much as I did watching your team play this year.
Thank you, for showing us what can be accomplished when people work together, try to help one another, and when no one cares who gets the credit. It was a really fun ride, and again I thank you, we all thank you!
Sincerely,
Dave Davis
