A 45-year-old mobile home park manager was killed last night when his bicycle collided with a tractor trailer truck.
Darrell Billiott, of 63 Franklin Park Circle, Newberry, was carrying groceries while riding his bicycle home around 6:20 p.m. on S.C. Highway 121 just past the intersection of College Street and Wilson Road.
Billiott and a 1999 Freightliner truck with a box trailer, which was driven by George Sizemore, 54, of Kentucky, were both traveling north toward I-26.
Billiott swerved off the sidewalk into the outside lane of traffic and was hit by the 18-wheeler, according to Highway Patrol Spokesman Scot Edgeworth.
Billiott was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner Craig Newton said the preliminary cause of death was blunt force trauma, but a more specific cause was still pending the results of an autopsy.
Newton said Billiott was the proprietor of the Franklin Mobile Home Park and used his bike as his primary mode of transportation.
