The power is out in Prosperity and at least one person is being airlifted after a train and logging truck met at the Highway 391 railroad crossing shortly before noon.

Diesel fuel is leaking from a 2,500-gallon tank that was being hauled by the train, and the fuel tank of the logging truck. The county’s hazardous materials team, fire and law enforcement are on the scene.

Tony Eshaak, owner of Roma’s Pizza, saw the accident from his business. He said the train slammed into the middle to back of the trailer full of logs, spraying logs and ejecting the driver through the truck’s windshield.

The driver was airlifted for medical care from the Fairview Fire Station. Town councilman Allen Gallman said the driver was talking and did not appear to have suffered life-threatening injuries after the accident. The truck was pushed approximately 100 yards down the tracks, knocking down a transformer near the junction, and cutting the town’s power.

Mayor Larry Spotts says Highway 391 is completely blocked due to the wreck. The road will be blocked until the wreck is moved and AT&T restores a downed line. He says he has been told power will be restored to the town by 4 p.m.

Main and Pine streets are also blocked due to the accident.

Further developments will be updated here.
