Youth prayer breakfast starts Monday

NEWBERRY — Youth from around the county will be getting up extra early next week for the annual prayer breakfast.

This is the 20th year for the Newberry YMCA Annual Prayer Breakfast Services.

The services are targeted to middle and high school students but are open to anyone.

The speakers this year will include Charles Bedenbaugh on Monday. Bedenbaugh lost a son in a car wreck and since the family has started the Will Power foundation in his memory.

Newberry College All-Star running back Dureal Elmore will be the speaker at Tuesday’s breakfast.

On Wednesday former NFL and Minnesota Viking player Bobby Bryant will speak.

Newberry College Assistant Athletic Director Mike Hold will tell his story on Thursday.

And to cap off the week the most well-known professional baseball player from Newberry, Billy O’Dell will talk to the audience about this major league baseball career and life on Friday.

The event will run Monday through Friday with breakfast at 6:45 a.m. at the Newberry College Kaufmann Dining Hall and the speakers will start at 7 a.m.

Each morning’s event will end by 7:30 a.m.

Transportation will be provided to both Newberry Middle and High schools after the event.

Tickets for the prayer breakfast are $3 a day for students or $8 for the week. The price for adults is $5 a day or $10 for the week.

Tickets can be purchased at the YMCA in advance or at the door.
