NEWBERRY – A pair of victories by juniors Susana Aguirre and Romina Adum were not enough for the Newberry women’s tennis team as the No. 32 Wingate Bulldogs topped the Wolves 6-3 at Newberry High School on Wednesday.

Aguirre and Adum knocked off Ali Evers and Becca Thomas of Wingate (6-3, 2-0 SAC) at No. 1 doubles for the Wolves’ (3-4, 0-2 SAC) first point of the afternoon.

In singles action Aguirre battled to a two-set victory over Evers, winning a second-set tiebreak 7-3. Adum, also earned her victory over Thomas in two sets to pick up the Wolves’ third team point.

Newberry is set to head to Greeneville, Tenn. for a 2 p.m. match at Tusculum on Friday afternoon, before a week of tennis in Hilton Head Island during spring break.
