In the first NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Southeast Region rankings released Wednesday, the Newberry women’s basketball team found itself ranked No. 9 in the region.
Newberry (13-10, 8-7 South Atlantic Conference) has played seven of the ten teams in the Southeast Region rankings, including region No. 1 Clayton State. Despite losing to the Lakers, the Wolves hold a 5-5 record against teams ranked in the Southeast Region and posted two victories over the region’s No. 6 team Tusculum.
Five teams from the SAC appear in the first NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Southeast Region rankings.
The rankings are the official poll recognized during the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship selection process.
Leading the SAC in the regional rankings is current conference-leader Catawba at No. 4. Wingate is No. 5 in the regional rankings, followed by No. 6 Tusculum and No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne.
The NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Committee will release updated rankings each week leading up to Championship selections.
