Wolves play to 0-0 draw against visiting Trojans

NEWBERRY - For the second straight match the Newberry women’s soccer team settled for a draw as the Wolves and the Anderson Trojans played to a 0-0 draw at the Newberry soccer field.

Neither team threatened the other much in the opening half as Anderson (5-4-3, 3-1-2 SAC) held a 4-2 shot advantage in the first period. Newberry (4-5-3, 1-3-2 SAC) however, placed both it took on frame, which forced Anderson’s Kaityln Neipp to record a pair of saves.

The second half saw both sides threaten to score, as both keepers were required to make a pair of saves each. The Wolves outshot Anderson 8-3 in the second period. In the overtime period the Wolves were outshot 2-1 by the Trojans.

The Wolves not only outshot Anderson 11-9, they placed five shots on frame as the Trojans forced Newberry freshman Rebecca Darley (Wolcott, Conn.) to make two saves in the match.

Newberry sophomore Brayden Miller (Lyman) led all players with four shots, while senior Amber Chase (Aiken) and a pair of sophomores in Gabrielle Brodie (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand) and Morgan Cox (Perth, Western Australia, Australia) each managed two shots each.

The draw was the third of the season for the Newberry, and was the second scoreless draw for the Wolves. Newberry also played its fourth overtime match of the season.

The Wolves travel to Mars Hill on Friday for a 5 p.m. South Atlantic Conference match against the Lions.
