Whitmire High School has a new elective option this year. Now students can sign up for bestsellers. This is a class designed to foster a love of reading and enjoy studying books that appeal to teens. As part of this class, which is taught by English teacher LaVerne Brock, the students have been enjoying a month-long celebration on the hot dystopian series The Hunger Games. In addition to discussing the novels at length, watching the movie, and designing Hunger Game cupcakes, the students have also designed T-shirts, made patterns for a literary quilt and carved pumpkins. and the pumpkins from left to right are the mockingjay designed by Madison Brock and Nathan Baxley, Peeta designed by Alana English and Austin Williams and Katnis designed by Sam Miller and Talon Trotter. Also pictured is the class working on creating their pumpkin carving masterpieces.

Whitmire Community student Talon Trotter hotlds his T-shirt, which represents the clock in book two where the games take place. The students read The Hunger Games in the new elective course option and then discussed and had an array of projects to complete.
