Three Whitmire council members and a new mayor were sworn in Thursday afternoon during a specially called meeting at Town Hall. From left to right are incumbent council member Cassie Fowler, new council member Clay Bodie, incumbent council member Debbie Harris and the new mayor Billy Hollingsworth.

Council members Cassie Fowler, left; Clay Bodie, middle and Debbie Harris all took their oaths of office Thursday afternoon at Town Hall. Fowler and Harris were both ushered in without opposition while Bodie is a new face on town council. Two council members, Chrystal Harsha and Dwight Lane, will not continue their terms. Harsha ran for mayor but lost in a close race and Lane’s term ended.

Billy Hollingsworth takes his oath as the new mayor of Whitmire Thursday afternoon at Town Hall. Hollingsworth was previously a council member but opted to run for mayor since Carroll’s term was up. Because Hollingsworth still had a couple of years left on council, a special election will be held April 2 to fill his remaining term.

After the oaths were taken by council and mayor, District One County Councilman Scott Cain, far right, congratulated them and said how he is looking forward to working with them. Cain’s district covers Whitmire. He was just sworn in for county council on Wednesday evening. From left to right are council member Cassie Fowler, council member Clay Bodie, Mayor Billy Hollingsworth, council member Debbie Harris and Cain.
